Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am”. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” (Ex. 3:13,14).
God is so great and can do so much that it is not always humanly possible to comprehend and describe all His attributes and potential in one phrase. When God told Moses that He is “I Am who I Am,” He was saying, “I Am what you need every time; I Am the Eternal One all the time, and I Am all-powerful any time.”
It means that God is unchanging in nature; unlimited in power and now through Moses would fulfill his promise to Abraham to possess land and develop Israel as a mighty nation under God’s Sovereign control. The I Am who I Am would be to Moses the I Am your LORD, Strength, and Deliverer; I Am your Salvation; I Am your Father God; I Am LORD who fights for you.
By the power of the Great I Am, Moses defeated the powerful armies of Egypt and the Israelite slaves were set free, their wealth was restored, and their families preserved. God is still the I Am who I Am. Whatever you need, He is The Great I Am to supply all your needs according to His riches in Glory. Pray. Ask. Believe. Receive.
The I AM that I AM is with me today and always.
