“Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it, but one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13,14
It is not so much your past that counts, but your determination for a better future. Paul had a past that could have tormented and condemned him forever. He was a murderer, a blasphemer, and a persecutor of Christians. He wrote to his spiritual son Timothy: “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners – of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.” 1 Timothy 1:15-16.
God got a hold of Paul’s life and he became one of His greatest Apostles.
Paganini, the famous violinist, was playing before a huge audience when one of the strings on his violin broke. As beads of perspiration formed he kept playing, improvising as he went. Then a second and a third string broke. With only one string left, the master-performer completed the composition. When he was finished the audience was on its feet in thunderous applause and encores. He bowed and nodded to the conductor to begin the encore and he shouted to the crowd, “Paganini… and one string!” He refused to quit. He finished the race and accomplished his goal. Remember the power within you is the power of ‘choice’. When you choose to win in the race of life, God becomes your coach and brings His team of angelic helpers that will guide you into your victory.
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me in Christ Jesus.
