The Stronghold of God
By Dr. Pat Francis
We often read in the Bible where God’s Servants would go to “The Stronghold” and emerge powerful to slay giants; overcome death; gain information for successful spiritual warfare; and literally grow in power, favor with God and favor with man.
David declared that LORD God as his Stronghold: “The LORD is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1.
A “stronghold” can be defined as: “A fortified place of protection; a hiding place from uncontrolled spiritual warfare; a place to go for strengthening before going into battles; a and training for successful victorious challenges and lifestyle.
Activities in the Stronghold includes praise, prayer, fasting, meditation, intercession, negotiation, spiritual warfare, enforcing God’s will and word for your life, listening for direction, thanksgiving and Faith.
David had many near-death experiences as his fame and favor with God resulted in jealousy, treachery and many attempts to “steal, kill and destroy” his destiny. Right after his was anointed king over Israel, King Saul issued a death warrant for His life.
“Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand." ” 2 Samuel 5:17-20.
You can see from this passage that when you hear bad news; when you life is threatened; when the enemy comes against you from all sides – “It is time to go to the stronghold”.
Notice that in the Stronghold David: sought the LORD for information; for direction; for help in the battle; for new strength in this new level of warfare; for God’s supernatural power and protection and God answered him.
In the stronghold you will seek and find God; you will hear His voice; your strength will be renewed; your hope will be restored; and you will leave their with the ability to fight the good fight of faith for victorious warfare.
In this 3 part series on the stronghold you learn how to create your stronghold; how to negotiate with God in the stronghold and how to arise from the stronghold with the power to slay your giants and enforce God’s will and word in your life.
